Jicineves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Jičíněves Castle was built for Count František Josef Schlik between 1715 and 1717 according to plans by Jean Baptiste Mathey. The three-storey Baroque building has a mansard roof and a small turret.

Culture and history

The Jičíněves Castle Chapel is a single-nave building with a rectangular floor plan and a presbytery. In 1730, the castle chapel “Zámecká kaple sv. Antonína Padovského a Nalezení sv. Kříže” was added to the northern side of the castle and dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and the Holy Cross. The Jičíněves Castle Chapel was opened to the public in 1776. Jičíněves Castle is not open to the public.

The statue “socha sv. Václava” is made of light sandstone and stands on a massive pedestal. It is located about 170 metres from the Jičín–Kopidlno main road, on the left side of the road in the direction of Keteň. Historically, Jičíněves Castle was connected to Kopidlno by a poplar avenue.

Nature

The “Jičíněves - zámek” Natura 2000 site protects the lesser horseshoe bat. Jičíněves Castle is situated in an extensive English landscape park with numerous rare and noteworthy trees. A local watercourse running through Jičíněves feeds the Zámecký rybník pond on the eastern edge of the village; Zámecký rybník lies south of Jičíněves Castle.

In the wider surroundings of Jičíněves lies the protected Chyjická stráň natural monument between Chyjice and Dolany. About 96 percent of its area consists of oak-hornbeam forests and about 3 percent of ash-alder floodplain forests. Chyjická stráň provides a habitat for protected bird and plant species, including the golden lily and the white woodland hyacinth.
