Mžany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mžany was first mentioned in 1404. To this day, the village combines notable evidence of its history with surroundings characterized by fruit trees, protected lime trees, and historic memorial sites.

Culture and History

The free-standing, masonry Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes stands at a road intersection and is surrounded by mature trees. Near the chapel there is a spring known as the “Miracle Well,” which supplies water even during periods of severe drought. Remarkable, protected lime trees surround the building.

Mžany and the associated settlements of Stračovská Lhota and Dub lie in the landscape where the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866 reached its climax. The first artillery salvos of the 1866 battle were fired from Dubský hájek between Dub and Stračovská Lhota. In the center of Mžany stands a large memorial to the victims of both world wars; southwest of the settlement there is also a memorial to the victims of the 1866 war. The grave of the Prussian soldier Michalaz is located east of Mžany.

The Church of Svatý Jiří is located in the wider regional area around Mžany.

Landscape

The fruit-tree avenue in Mžany, historically known as Třešňovka, was restored on October 24, 2015. It runs above Mžany along a side road lined mainly with cherry trees.

The hills of Sobětušský bor [Nechanice-Sobětuš], Babylon [Třesovice], (Na příbytkách) [Všestary-Lípa], and Svíb [Máslojedy] are located in the vicinity of Mžany.

Local Traditions

Pivovar Lindr Mžany produces all of its beers on site, using Czech malt, Saaz hops, and selected brewing yeast. The brewery was established with the aim of reviving and preserving rural traditions; the extensive reconstruction of the dilapidated building led to the completion of the present-day brewery in 2014.
