Lukavec U Hořic: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lukavec u Hořic lies in a meadow-dominated valley at the northern foot of the wooded Chlum Hills and is surrounded by forests on three sides. The Byšičky Nature Monument encompasses the cadastral area of Lukavec u Hořic.

Nature

The majority of the Byšičky Nature Monument consists of forests of varying, partly natural composition; adjoining them are several ponds with unique peat meadows in the floodplain. The entire Byšičky complex is an important biocentre in a predominantly agricultural landscape.

The Lukavecký Stream, also called Lukava, Lukavec and Lukavý, flows through Lukavec u Hořic and rises at Osmik Pond near the Byšičky forester’s lodge.

History and Village Character

Lukavec was founded in the first half of the 13th century and originally had a manor farm, three to five farmsteads and a fortress. The former Lukavec fortress was demolished in the 18th century; it probably stood near today’s House No. 44, and terrain irregularities from former defensive ditches and ramparts have survived from its original layout.

Some log houses in Lukavec u Hořic date from the late 18th or early 19th century. The Lukavecký Cross opposite the municipal building was erected in 1844 and restored in 1880 and 1896. The stone monument bearing the names of the fallen was erected in 1922 on a hill in the centre of Lukavec.

Memorial events commemorating the founding of the state were held at the war memorial on 28 October; during the gathering of former residents, a procession also proceeded to the monument.

Lukavec has a swimming area in a fire pond; entering and swimming are at your own risk. Cycle Route No. 4135 passes through Lukavec u Hořic. The second edition of a competition for the best homemade sauerkraut took place at Restaurant Lucerna during Lukavecké zelobraní on 6 March 2026.
