Višňová: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Višňová stands the Church of St. Catherine, an Early Gothic building dating from around 1300. The parish church is located south of the Kocába River by Homolka Pond.

Culture and local history

The church grounds include a stone Early Baroque crucifix from the second half of the 17th century. The complex also includes the lower, rectangular Baroque Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre and a Late Baroque rectory from the second half of the 18th century. Particularly striking is its remarkable mansard roof with shingle roofing.

A separate cultural-historical connection leads to the television series Chalupáři: it was filmed predominantly during the summer months of 1974 in Višňová. In the series, the village was renamed Třešňová.

Landscape and surroundings

The named mountains Velká Leč and Velký Chlum are located in the immediate vicinity of Višňová. The mountains Kuchyňka and Aglaia, as well as the Church of St. Anne, are also located in the surrounding area.

The wider regional area includes the Zřícenina Valdek ruins and Karlštejn Castle. The village of Lety u Písku is also located there, with the named historical site Památník holokaustu Romů a Sintů v Čechách.

Routes and filming locations

A blue-marked hiking route leads through the sights of Višňová and its surroundings. In addition, Višňová has a 2.5-kilometre local route that recalls well-known places from the series Chalupáři. Jaroslav Hejda organises guided tours with explanations of the filming locations of Chalupáři. In the village, visitors can see nearly twenty locations known from the series; at five locations, there are information boards about the filming locations known from Chalupáři.

The Chalupářský teréňák is also part of the village’s history. It is a running competition for runners and non-runners. During the fourth Chalupářský teréňák, a seven-kilometre route led around Homolka Pond, also locally known as Šeňák.
