In Občov stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, a small Baroque chapel in the form of a three-sided prism that has been protected since 1958. It was built around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries and was probably erected as a station on the pilgrimage route from Prague to Svatá Hora near Příbram.

Culture and history

On the road to Suchodol stands the Column with an Image of Our Lady of Svatá Hora, approximately 300 to 400 metres northeast of the edge of Občov, between two lime trees. The present version is a simplified replica of the original object and is regarded primarily as part of the cultural landscape’s collective memory. The column was probably one of the stations on the historic pilgrimage route from Prague to Svatá Hora.

The first written record of Občov dates from 1357. The local cultural heritage also includes the monument to Emanuel Hrubý, a politician of the First Czechoslovak Republic who came from Občov.

Nature and landscape

According to tradition, Občov is said to have originated from an isolated farmstead in a light oak and beech forest where sheep were kept.
