Velká Buková: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Velká Buková is located in the centre of the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. This protected landscape area, where Velká Buková is situated, is also a biosphere reserve in the worldwide UNESCO network.

Landscape

The Nezabudické skály Nature Reserve is located on the southern edge of Velká Buková. It covers 22.94 hectares and was established in 1988 primarily to protect reptiles and rocky forest steppes. The Jedle u Velké Bukové, designated as a natural monument, is estimated to be more than 200 years old.

Trails and viewpoints

The Rozhledna Velká Buková observation tower stands on the outskirts of Velká Buková in Křivoklátsko at an altitude of 445 metres. A local road branches off from Class III road 20113 to the observation tower; visitor parking is available at the tower. At the foot of the Velká Buková observation tower there is also a children's playground with fitness equipment for adults as well.

The marked Královská cesta viewpoint trail runs along the eastern edge of the cadastral area of Velká Buková and follows a contour path through a wooded slope. The Královská cesta offers views of Křivoklát and Křivoklát Castle. A red KČT hiking trail connects the Velká Buková observation tower with Křivoklát over a distance of 3.5 kilometres. From this red hiking trail between the Velká Buková observation tower and Křivoklát, a short detour leads to the Hřebínek viewpoint.

Culture and history

Křivoklát Castle, a national cultural monument, is located in the surroundings of Velká Buková. The statue of Saint Wenceslas in Velká Buková is designated as a protected monument. The late Baroque statue depicts the saint in armour and princely robes, with a flag and a shield in a Rococo cartouche.

A Modernist chapel was built above the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in 1930, protecting its original and later polychrome paint layers. The chapel with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Velká Buková contains a valuable Baroque statue of the saint dating from 1764.
