Ujkovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ujkovice can be explored through its history, landscape and trails. Each of these areas contains tangible traces that bring the character of this part of Central Bohemia to life.

Culture and History

The only registered immovable cultural monument in Ujkovice is the archaeological remains of a fortress. The fortress site lies north of the farmyard on the edge of a terrain terrace; it is protected on three sides by a ditch and on the northern side by a slope.

The fortress was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century. In 1517, it was still mentioned as existing; in the following decades, it was described as abandoned. The documented history of Ujkovice begins as early as 1088 under the former name of Hejkovice. Some older residents still occasionally use this name today.

The former Dětenice–Dobrovice railway line is also documented historically. The single-track local line was originally privately owned by Count Thurn-Taxis. Freight transport began in 1883, passenger transport in 1902, and the line was nationalised in 1908. Passenger transport ended in 1970, and the line was closed in 1974.

Nature and Landscape

There are five ponds in Ujkovice; the largest are located on the Hasinský stream. Borečovský covers 8.2 hectares and Kabát 5.1 hectares. The surroundings of Ujkovice feature a picturesque Central Bohemian landscape with numerous ponds and small ponds.

The Kabát and Borečovský pond system, registered as an HKS, covers 42.9 hectares in the cadastral areas of Ujkovice and Domousnice. It lies beneath a wooded slope and comprises wetland and meadow communities, reed beds, groups of trees and riparian vegetation. The area has a diverse range of species and is significant as a zoological site.

The western edge of the Dymokursko Site of Community Importance (CZ0210101) extends into the southeast of Ujkovice. Within the municipality, this area covers 59.54 hectares, out of a total area of 4,309.24 hectares.

One of the area’s special natural features is an oak tree in Ujkovice. On 19 May 2011, a documented trunk circumference of 840 cm was recorded at a height of 1.3 m; its age is estimated at around 500 years.

Trails

A marked hiking trail passes along the northern edge of Ujkovice and continues via the former military hospital, a recreational area and the former Karlovec forester’s lodge to Ledce.

Another marked hiking route leads west from Ujkovice to Borečovský Pond and Kabát Pond, skirts both on their eastern sides and then continues to Rabakov.
