The forests around Souňov consist predominantly of spruce and include areas of deciduous and mixed woodland. No marked hiking trail passes through Souňov.

Culture and History

The first surviving written reference to Souňov dates from 1559. The bell chapel of Souňov is a small historicist building from the 19th century with a square floor plan, a hipped roof and a lantern topped with an onion-shaped dome.

The Souňovský, Nový, Malý mlýn mill is located in the cadastral area of Souňov on the Medenický stream, below the dam of a pond created to supply water to the mill. Since its reconstruction and revitalization in 2001, the pond above the mill has been used for fish farming and fishing. According to the date on a post in the mill structure, the Souňovský, Nový, Malý mlýn mill was built in 1671 by Cistercians from Sedlec Monastery.

Traditions and Events

Traditional cultural and sporting events take place in Souňov, including the raising of maypoles, the burning of witch effigies, a Children’s Day, summer sports competitions, St. Nicholas celebrations and a gathering around the Christmas tree. Souňov’s events programme for 2026 includes the traditional burning of witch effigies and the raising of maypoles for the villages.

Geographical Setting

Souňov lies southwest of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands at an elevation of 300 metres. The town is approximately 10 kilometres from both Čáslav and Kutná Hora; frequent bus services provide a connection.
