The history of Drobovice includes the former commandery of the Teutonic Order. It was founded around 1240 by Jan z Polné. Drobovice was first mentioned in 1242, when Wenceslaus I confirmed the Teutonic Order’s ownership of the settlement. According to written sources, the commandery was an important institution in the Middle Ages, as well as an extensive and representative building complex. It was destroyed by the Hussites in 1421. Today, no above-ground remains of the commandery or its fortifications are visible on the site.

History

The former commandery was located in the southern part of Drobovice on the left bank of the Čáslavka, also known as the Brslenka, in the area extending from the cemetery to beyond the Mlýnský potok. In 1356, Emperor Charles IV granted the monastery in Drobovice the right to impose the death penalty. From then on, executions by hanging took place on the Bambousek hill, which was also called Šibeniční vrch (“Gallows Hill”).
