Kuttenberg opens up a history connected with rich silver ore deposits: their discovery and exploitation led to the development of Kutná Hora, which became a royal town in the 14th century.

Culture and History

In Sedlec, the former Cistercian Cathedral of Our Lady was restored in the Baroque style by Jan Blažej Santini in the early 18th century. The Church of All Saints with its ossuary also stands in Sedlec; it is a two-storey Gothic church dating from the first half of the 14th century. It is still a functioning Roman Catholic church where Mass is celebrated.

The Vlašský dvůr was a royal mint and a royal palace. Today it is a national cultural monument; its history dates back to the first half of the 14th century. The Church of St Barbara in Kutná Hora is Gothic. Its interior frescoes depict the secular life of the medieval mining town of Kutná Hora.

Mining Experiences and the Vrchlice Valley

The “Cesta stříbra” tour takes visitors at a depth of approximately 40 metres through a 250-metre section of the original medieval mine. The educational trail through the Vrchlice Valley combines information about local history and the flora and fauna with old mines, adits, mills and natural attractions.

The educational trail runs mainly along asphalt or surfaced gravel roads, as well as forest roads and paths. For the most part, it follows the red-marked hiking route.

Zámek Kačina is a château in the area surrounding Kutná Hora. Mount Hořánck lies in the wider area around Kutná Hora. Kaňk and Písečný vrch [Malešov] are hills in the immediate surroundings, while Vysoká is a hill in the area around Kutná Hora.
