Culture and Museums

The NZM Čáslav focuses on the history of mass-produced series of tractors, combine harvesters and ploughs. It displays agricultural machinery in a modern exhibition and partially accessible storage facilities, including rare prototypes that never went into series production. A cycle path runs through the grounds, which also feature a traffic training area, a pump track and a workout zone.

The Městské muzeum Čáslav is one of the oldest rural museums in the Czech Republic and is housed in a building constructed in 1884 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

History and Churches

The Church of St Peter and Paul comprises a predecessor church built in the mid-12th century and dedicated to Saint Michael, an Early Gothic presbytery added in the 13th century, as well as a Gothic three-aisled nave and a chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows built in the 14th century. The Čáslav Diet was held in this church in 1421.

The surviving Otakarova bašta is a 22-metre-high cylindrical tower of the former Brodská or Jeníkovská gatehouse. It was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style in 1883 and has survived in this form to the present day. The Žižkova síň houses an exhibition commemorating Jan Žižka of Trocnov and the history of the Hussite movement.

Elisabeth is protected as a cultural monument; it has been protected since 3 May 1958 and bears the registration number ÚSKP 22699/2-922. Following the devastating town fire of 1522, a new hospital and a church with a cemetery were built in the suburban area.

Landscape and Surroundings

Čáslavský hrádek is located near Podměstský rybník and is now part of Vodranty forest park.

Zámek Kačina is a château in the surroundings of Čáslav; Mount Krkanka is also located nearby. In the wider regional surroundings of Čáslav are Bučina Mountain, Hořánck Mountain, Ostojovka Mountain [Ledeč nad Sázavou-Souboř] and the Church of Svatý Jiří.
