Semtěš: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Semtěš lies at the foot of the Železné hory mountain range. Traces of a fortified settlement from the Iron Age have been preserved in Semtěš.

History

The tower of Semtěš Fortress, known as “Bašta”, is a 22-metre-high prismatic tower made of dark rubble stone, built in the 14th century as part of a noble residence. Bašta was reconstructed in 1997–1998 and converted into a lookout tower offering panoramic views of the Železné hory and the surroundings of Čáslav. Visits are possible by prior telephone appointment; the keys are available from a local attendant.

The Evangelical Reformed Church in Semtěš is also part of the town’s history. It was built between 1860 and 1862 and ceremonially opened on 15 September 1867. Its organ dates from 1915. Pelíškova síň was added in 1935 and later used as a winter prayer room.

Things to do

The Stezka rytíře Rubína trail leads around Semtěš; each station features a description, an image and a task. As part of the admission, the trail provides visitors with a worksheet. After completing the tasks, they receive small rewards.

A blue-marked hiking trail connects Semtěš with Sovoluská Lhota. Cycling route 4188 is classified as easy. On the Řečany nad Labem–Semtěš section, it runs via Podhořany to Pařížov.
