Culture and History

Žáky was first mentioned in 1407 and remained the property of Sedlec Monastery until 1540. A defining landmark is Žáky Castle: the imposing multi-storey building stands on a rectangular ground plan and has a pentagonal four-storey tower at its north-western corner. The western façade of the castle faces a park; a plaque bearing the year 1611 is located at the main entrance. The complex also includes an enclosing wall with gates.

In the northern part of the village, the ruins of the Štrampouch windmill stand on a hill. Its cylindrical masonry structure has two opposing windows on the upper floor with collapsed arched tops. Zámek Kačina Castle is located in the vicinity of Žáky, while the Church of Svatý Jiří is situated in the wider regional area.

Nature

Fishing at Jordán Pond is permitted exclusively on a “catch and release” basis and only by prior arrangement with the operator. When entering the area around Jordán Pond, the provisions of the operating regulations and the operator’s instructions apply.

Mount Krkanka is located in the vicinity of Žáky. In the wider regional area are Mount Ostojovka [Ledeč nad Sázavou-Souboř], Mount Bučina and Mount Hořánck.
