The oldest written mention of the municipality of Potěhy dates back to 1242. The document from 1242 refers to Potěhy as a parish village consisting of two settlements.

Culture

The Church of Saint Gothard was rebuilt from 1856 to 1873 according to plans by F. Schmoranz.

The chapel in Potěhy is a Baroque chapel from the mid-18th century; it stands at the end of Potěhy on the road to Drobovice and was added to the list of cultural monuments in 1973.

The former vicarage in Potěhy, house number 1, accommodated the Ferdinand Berousek Circus for several months.
