Petrovice II: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

On the outskirts of Petrovice II in the direction of Uhlířské Janovice stands the Church of St. Martin, dating from 1350. It is an early Gothic building; the vaulting of the presbytery from 1544 has also been preserved inside the church.

Culture and history

The deep cellars beneath Farmhouse No. 1 are important evidence of the former fortress of Petrovice II. The cemetery is home to a wooden bell tower that has been repaired several times and, according to an inscription on its base, dates back to 1659.

The site of the Stará Huť glassworks in Petrovice II is classified as an important archaeological site. Preserved there are the 14.7 × 13-metre foundations of the production hall, as well as the stone structure of the cooling furnace, which has been preserved to a height of nearly two metres.

Nature

Petrovice II and the adjacent settlements are situated in a wooded area used mainly by owners of weekend and holiday homes for recreation.

The Petrovice II observation tower was built by Český Mobil in 2004 as a transmission mast. Its main viewing gallery is located 30 metres above the ground and can be reached via 158 spiral staircase steps. The observation tower was opened to the public in spring 2005.
