At the heart of Vidice stands the Church of Saint Nicholas with its bell tower and cemetery, the village’s landmark. It was already standing at the beginning of the 14th century. The protected Church of Saint Nicholas complex in Vidice comprises the church, the bell tower, the enclosing wall with its gate, and the associated properties. Beside the church stands a centuries-old commemorative lime tree.
Culture and History
The Roztěž château grounds comprise a chapel, a terrace with sculptures, a grotto, a terraced garden, and a château park. The hunting château in Roztěž was built in 1669; Roztěž Château was remodelled in 1909–1911 according to plans by the architect Leopold Bauer in the style of Viennese Secession Classicism. The former spa complex in Roztěž includes a stone fountain and three barrel-vaulted bridges.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Help in Lázně is an Empire-style building dating from 1817–1820. The grounds of the Lázeňský dům with this chapel include a terrace, a covered access route to the spring, former spa buildings, and a former forester’s lodge. The former spa facilities in Lázně were a destination for visitors from Kutná Hora.
Vidice is also home to a rural farmstead at house number 9.
Nature and Landscape
The area east of the road towards Mezholezy–Vidice–Košice belongs to the “Údolí Bylanky a Vrchlice” Nature Park, which protects wooded and locally rocky valleys cut by streams, as well as xerothermic communities on Cretaceous sediments.
The sandstone quarries near Nová Lhota are located in pathless terrain, more than 250 m from the road. One of the sandstone quarries near Nová Lhota is known for the discovery of a dinosaur skeleton from the Iguanodontidae family.
Activities
The VSH multi-purpose sports field in Roztěž can be used for tennis, volleyball, foot tennis, handball, and football. Casa Serena in Roztěž 1, Vidice, is an 18-hole golf course with a par of 71 and a length of 6,364 m. The CKH14 “Do Uhlířských Janovic” cycle route also passes through Vidice; it is 53.6 km long, with a possible deviation of ±5%.
