Šebestěnice: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Šebestěnice combines a historic water landscape, visible traces of silver mining, and a subsidiary church in the village. These three facets bring the history of the village to life.

Water and Landscape

The Šebestěnický potok is a right-bank tributary of the Vranidolský potok. It flows through the municipalities of Šebestěnice and Chlum and is 7 km long. Historically, the stream fed a chain of eight ponds. The historic ponds formed a closely spaced chain designed to retain as much water as possible.

The Návesní Pond is the only surviving pond from the original system of eight ponds along the Šebestěnický potok. It covers 1.04 hectares, is filled with water today, and is used for fish farming. The changing character of the pond landscape can also be seen on maps: maps from the First Military Survey from the second half of the 18th century show all eight ponds; on the next survey, from the early 19th century, only two ponds are marked.

History

Traces of very old silver mining have been documented in Šebestěnice. Silver mining near Šebestěnice resumed around 1570; in 1572, Havel Šiška was entrusted with managing a mine in the silver-bearing hills near Šebestěnice.

South of Šebestěnice, three pits are visible in the forest known as “Na šachtách” as preserved traces of mining. The southernmost depression is 6 m deep.

Culture

The subsidiary Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is located in Šebestěnice. On October 4, 2025, the TFA competition of the Volunteer Fire Brigade took place at the sports field in Šebestěnice; visitors were invited to attend the public event.

Getting Around

Šebestěnice is suitable for hiking trips. Bus route 600580 operates on weekdays, at weekends, and on selected public holidays.
