Beer Culture

At Pivovar Holanďan, the regular range includes a ten-degree draught beer, a semi-dark eleven-degree lager, an eleven-degree Kazbek ALE and a twelve-degree lager. For groups of 5 to 15 people, the brewery offers 30-minute brewery tours with tastings of the current tank beers; the tour must be arranged at least two days in advance.

History

Hlízov was first mentioned in 1142 as property of Sedlec Monastery, which held the village until 1421. Hlízov’s first fortress was probably built as early as the end of the 15th century and is first documented in 1547. The Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers was added to Hlízov Castle in 1746.

Culture

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War in Hlízov was unveiled on 29 June 1924 and is an obelisk made of Hořice sandstone. The prehistoric tomb in Hlízov contained 20 vessels, including numerous bell beakers; the finds are kept at the museum in Kolín.

Hlízov Castle and the entire farmyard are listed as immovable cultural monuments in the central heritage register of the Czech Republic under registration number 45795/2–1132. The stone statue in Hlízov dates from the first half of the 19th century, was restored in 1995, is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is freely accessible. The ceremonial chapel of Hlízov stands in the middle of the cemetery on the southern edge of the village, on the road to Malín.

Nature and Trails

The protected lime trees at Lípy u Panny Marie grow southeast of the village of Hlízov by the cemetery and form a significant aesthetic landscape feature. The CKH2 cycle route offers a way from Hlízov to Starý Kolín via the blue-marked KČT trail along the Klejnárka.
