At Červené Janovice Castle, a masonry bridge, ramparts and other remains mark the site of a former water castle dating from the 14th century.

Culture and History

According to various sources, the former fortress was rebuilt into a magnificent castle in 1600 by the stucco artist Karel Bretani from Vlach. The castle includes Renaissance arcades preserved in the courtyard, now glazed in.

During repairs to the Church of St Martin in 1875, original Gothic stone window surrounds were discovered; the window behind the altar also had its original Gothic form. The new church was consecrated on 15 October 1911 by Bishop Th.Dr. Josef Doubrava.

The statue of the young fisherman has stood at Na Městečku for more than 100 years. It was carved from Hořice sandstone in 1911, professionally restored in 2025 and placed back on its pedestal.
