Vavřinec: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Church of Saint Lawrence in Vavřinec is a pseudo-Gothic church built in 1876–1877 according to a design by the architect František Schmoranz. In Vavřinec, it is listed as an immovable cultural monument under reference number 1204.

Culture and history

The settlement of Vavřinec was founded in the 14th century together with its church by monks from the Sázava Monastery of Saint Procopius. Vavřinec is also home to a Baroque Church of Saint Nicholas dating from the mid-18th century, which has been preserved as a historic building. At the site of a former fortress, an original granary of the Jesuit order has been preserved in Vavřinec.

Nature

The Výrovka flows through Vavřinec and empties into the Elbe. The Vavřinec district is home to the extensive Vavřinecký rybník pond. In the Vavřinec planning area, this body of water is the largest of three large water bodies; it is designated as Regional Biocentre No. 956.

Transport connections

There are direct bus connections from Vavřinec to Uhlířské Janovice, Zásmuky, Kolín and Žíželice. Vavřinec also has train connections towards Ledečko and Kolín.

Tradition

The pilgrimage “Pouť ve Vavřinci a Žíšově” includes roasting and music in August.
