Bohdaneč is home to the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, an early Gothic church from the 13th century whose original apse has been preserved. It has a five-sided presbytery from the 13th century with a late Gothic ribbed vault, as well as a richly profiled original Gothic limestone portal with reliefs of human masks. It also contains chandeliers from the nearby glassworks in Tasice.

The grounds of Ostrov currently house a museum of folk costumes. In the wider region around Bohdaneč are Kačina Chateau, Orlík Castle as a ruin, Želivský Kláštor as a monastery and Loreta as a church.

Activities

The “Wandering Among Bodies of Water” educational trail is 19.2 kilometres long.

The “History of Czech Glassmaking” educational trail around Bohdaneč is approximately 9.2 kilometres long and is described as physically undemanding. It has nine stops and includes a historic glass furnace where, among other things, the television series “Sons and Daughters of Jakub the Glassmaker” was filmed.

In an outbuilding near the distillery, visitors can learn about a large bee colony.

Getting around

Bohdaneč is best reached by car; buses to Bohdaneč run only on weekdays. The nearest rail connections are via Zbraslavice, Ledeč nad Sázavou and Zruč nad Sázavou.

Rozhledna Bohdanka is closed to the public.
