Zruc Nad Sázavou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zruč nad Sázavou combines castle history, river landscapes and unusual adventure trails. In the south wing of Zruč nad Sázavou Castle, tourists can take two guided tours. The castle and information centre are accessible without barriers; a car park is located about 200 metres from the castle.

Culture and History

The castle grounds include the complex of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It is located in the bailey area east of the castle building and comprises the church, a mortuary chapel, and enclosing and retaining walls. Another historical feature is the Cemetery Chapel of St James the Greater, a brick Empire-style burial chapel with a crypt built in 1846.

The exhibitions also explore the history of the town and the Sázava River. The interactive exhibition “The Story of the Sázava River” is housed in a former barn. The Water Sports Museum is located in Zručský dvůr, a former farm building belonging to the Schebek family. In addition, the “Baťovská Zruč” portal documents and presents personalities, objects, topics and documents related to the history of the Baťa era and the subsequent shoemaking era in Zruč nad Sázavou.

Trails through the Park and Landscape

A two-kilometre educational trail with 14 stops leads through Zručský Castle Park. They focus on the park’s historical monuments and the history of the Schebek family, the castle’s last owners. A longer route is the seven-kilometre Zručská Trail to the Babka lookout tower: it begins in Zruč nad Sázavou and leads to the Babka lookout tower.

The viewing platform of the 24-metre-high Babka lookout tower offers views of Zruč nad Sázavou and the surrounding area. The 3.8-kilometre Zručská cycling trail also runs along the Sázava River. It connects the new part of Zruč with the old part and continues to Domahoř. The route can be used by cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians; in winter, it is also suitable for cross-country skiers.

Activities in the Moat

The Knight Milota Trail runs through the moat. Visitors can try activities including axe throwing, archery, climbing a totem, crossing a horizontal beam, fishing and skittles. The educational and adventure trail of Knight Milota of Kolowrat, designed for children aged three and over, is also located in the moat of Zruč nad Sázavou.

The Educational Fish Trail at Na Rybárně in Zruč nad Sázavou focuses on a different theme. It features play elements, secret missions and puzzles, and teaches visitors about fish from rivers, ponds and streams in an entertaining way.
