Podveky is dominated by a hill crowned by the Church of St Havel, which is surrounded by a cemetery. The church complex is protected as a state cultural monument and combines several historical layers: the present church was built in 1783 on the site of an earlier church, is considered an example of late Baroque rustic architecture, and preserves a Gothic core beneath the later Baroque alterations.
Culture and History
The smaller buildings in the village also contribute to Podveky’s historic character. The bell tower is made of Nučice sandstone and was built in 1901. The village cross on the village square dates from 1890.
Landscape and Trails
Podveky is situated in a landscape surrounded by woodland; the Turnovka stream flows through the village. A yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Podveky. The Posázavská trasa cycle path also runs here, while cycle route 0122 connects Podveky with Krasoňovice. A walk from Podveky leads to Kamenný stůl.
Practical Information in the Village
The grocery shop in the Podveky municipal office building also serves tourists.
