Košice U Nepoměřic: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
In Košice U Nepoměřic stands the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (“Kostel Narození Panny Marie”). Of its original Early Gothic structure, a rectangular nave and a rectangular chancel with a cross vault have been preserved.
Culture and History
The church’s bell tower contains two historic bells dating from 1475 and 1492. The originally Romanesque church proves that Košice was a parish village by the middle of the 13th century at the latest. The first written mention of Košice dates from 1287; the local nobleman Budislav z Košic is also mentioned in 1320.
A date on the Late Gothic pointed-arch portal dates the construction of the church tower to 1563. The last major renovation took place in the 1820s. During this work, a sacristy was added and the entire church building was reroofed.
Villagescape
The church stands in the center of Košice on the road to Malešov, on a gentle slope above a watercourse. Of the numerous ponds originally located in Košice, only the pond in the village center on the village green remains today.
Crafts and Events
Regular meetings for making ceramics are held at KC Košice, including a meeting on the subject of fauna and flora on January 9, 2024.
As part of a restoration project, the access stairs were adapted to make the church’s bell tower accessible. During the “Dnů evropského dědictví 2012” event, a guided tour of the church with expert commentary took place in Košice.
Local Tradition
At the 5th charity market “KOLÁČ PRO KOSTEL V KOŠICÍCH,” a competition among female and male bakers for the best traditional koláč was held on September 8, 2018.
