Ovčáry is located in the Polabí lowland on the right bank of the Elbe. The municipality lies in the central Polabí region within the Bohemian Table and, at approximately 166 metres above sea level, has an almost flat relief; it is situated in a moderately warm, dry district with mild winters.

Nature and water

In the southern part of the cadastral area of Ovčáry, areas locally merge into reed-covered wetlands as a result of the straightening of the Elbe during the First Republic.

A small part of Jezero Křenek extends into the cadastral area of Ovčáry. Jezero Křenek, a recreational lake with sandy beaches, is located near Ovčáry and is surrounded by fields on three sides and woodland on the fourth. Visitors also refer to the lake as Jezero Ovčáry. Townscape and history

The area between the cross by the municipal office and the bell tower with its pond is considered the current centre of Ovčáry. The cross, erected in 1881, bears carved reliefs of saints on its sides.

The monument to the inhabitants of Ovčáry who fell in the First World War was created by the stonemason Břetislav Vobořil from Kralupy. The bell of Ovčáry is considered the oldest in the immediate surroundings. After the reconstruction of the bell tower, the original bell has been kept in the municipal office for fear of theft; a replica stands in its original place.
