Liběchov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Liběchov presents its history in very different forms – as a building, a garden, a relief and a route.
Culture
The accessible castle garden in Liběchov features garden vases and a waterfall by Václav Levý; it also contains the statue of Perseus by Matyáš Braun. The Liběchov castle grounds include a symmetrically designed garden decorated with sculptures, as well as an English park with three bridges and an artistically designed watercourse of the Liběchovka.
Klácelka is a cave and, at the same time, a sandstone block bearing reliefs created by the sculptor Václav Levý in the 1840s. The entrance is designed as a rectangular portal framed with ornamental details and topped by a drapery arch. Inside the cave are shallow rock reliefs based on motifs from J. W. Goethe’s fable “Lišák Ferina” and on designs by the French caricaturist Grandville. The area in front of the cave is called Blaník; there, Václav Levý created reliefs of Jan Žižka, Prokop Holý, Zdeněk Zásmucký and dwarfs forging weapons for the Blaník knights. A marked blue hiking trail runs directly past the cave.
Harfenice is a massive sandstone block with sculptures dating from 1841, including a female figure with a harp, seven large human heads and the artificially carved U ještěra cave.
History
The original round water castle of Liběchov Castle, dating from the 14th century, has largely been preserved. Between 1720 and 1730, F. M. Kaňka built a new structure at Liběchov Castle.
The Church of St. Havel is a single-nave Baroque building from 1733–1734, created by rebuilding an older Gothic church. The church is accessible during Mass. The Chapel of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Sepulchre is a simple octagonal building with a dome and lantern; in 1903, a rectangular nave was added to its western side.
Routes
The “Elbe Wine Trail” cycle route passes through Liběchov. It is part of the interregional Elbe Route, which continues in Germany as the “Elbe Cycle Route”, as well as the international Prague–Berlin route (KČT 2) and thus the European EuroVelo 7 route (North Cape–Malta).
