Nečín is known as a land of stone, with many abandoned and flooded quarries. Very high-quality grey-white Nečín granite has been quarried here since the 18th century. More than half of Nečín’s area is covered by forests; during the summer months, the forests are used for mushroom picking and recreation.

Landscape

The highest point in the municipality of Nečín is Nečínská Besídka, at 508 m. In clear weather, the view from there extends as far as the Šumava Mountains. North of Nečín lies Lom Vančátka, the largest of the small flooded granite quarries. The flooded quarry is used for swimming; in winter, ice bathing or ice skating is possible there.

Hiking Trails

The blue-marked hiking trail leads from Ouběnice into the municipality of Nečín and joins the red-marked hiking trail at the Skalice, rozc. signpost. This section is 3 km long. A yellow-marked hiking trail connects sections of the green-marked hiking trail and leads directly through Nečín on the route between Vrchy, rozc. and Žebrák; it is 3.4 km long.

History and Tradition

A bronze hoard found by Josef Červenkа, a stonecutter from Nečín, at Pudilův lom in Besídka consists of a bundle of bronze needles and has been dated by historians to 2,500 years ago. The Nečín bronze hoard is kept at the National Museum in Prague and served as the basis for Eduard Štorch’s book “Bronzový poklad”.

According to tradition, Varta Hill near the settlement of Skalice once guarded the Sedlčany Road, a branch of the Golden Trail. Tradition also holds that a castle once stood on the wooded Bělohrad Hill.
