Kotenčice lies below Velký Chlum (481 m). Three ponds are located within the municipality and shape the character of the village; Náveský rybník is a pond or small water reservoir in Kotenčice.

History and Village Character

The first written mention of Kotenčice dates back to 1382. At that time, the Buková estate administered the fields.

Culture and Historical Traces

There is a chapel on the village square in the centre of Kotenčice. The present chapel was consecrated on 19 October 1941, after the older chapel had been demolished for safety reasons. Inside, it is adorned with a triptych of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, flanked by depictions of Saint Wenceslas and Saint Ludmila.

Prostřední mlýn Mill lies below Náveský rybník in Kotenčice, 200 m south of the chapel in Kotenčice. Its milling operations presumably ended as early as the 18th century.

Kotenčice can be reached via a third-class road and has bus services. A virtual tour of the village is also available.

Events and Change

Local events in Kotenčice include the burning of the witches and Children's Day. They also include an entertainment programme for the pilgrimage and social gatherings during the church consecration festival.

Kotenčice's original agricultural character changed in the 1950s. Today, a smaller proportion of the inhabitants work in agriculture.
