Kostomlaty Nad Labem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kostomlaty nad Labem combines the ruins of Mydlovar Castle in the floodplain forest on the Elbe with a protected river floodplain area, Baroque sacred architecture, and the annual Staročeské máje festival.

Culture and History

Mydlovar Castle was abandoned in 1553. Its grounds include a rectangular castle core, an approximately trapezoidal outer bailey, a double ditch with an embankment, and preserved remains of a strong curtain wall. The ruins stand in the floodplain forest on the Elbe and directly connect the historic site with the surrounding landscape.

The Church of Saint Bartholomew is a Baroque sacred complex dating from the last quarter of the 18th century. Its complex includes a bell tower and sculptures. There is also a historical connection at the ČD railway station: a memorial plaque to Bohumil Hrabal, who worked there, is located there.

The Staročeské máje festival takes place every year on the second Saturday in May. It includes a procession through the village accompanied by musicians and a festively decorated horse-drawn carriage.

Natural Area

The Mydlovarský luh Nature Reserve comprises natural eutrophic bodies of water with corresponding aquatic vegetation, transitional mires and quaking bogs, as well as mixed ash-alder floodplain forests and other mixed floodplain forests along large rivers.

Horky Mountain is located in the vicinity of Kostomlaty nad Labem. Na Čilečku Hill is in the nearby area, as is Všechlapský vrch Hill. U Borku Mountain is located in the wider regional surroundings of Kostomlaty nad Labem.

The municipal office sells municipality-related gifts, a tourist stamp, and stickers.
