Culture and history

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is registered as an immovable cultural monument in the administrative area of the municipality of Kněžice. Between 1774 and 1777, it was rebuilt in its present late Baroque form, with a semicircular apse and a prismatic tower. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Kněžice u Městce Králové is a former parish church and is now a branch church of the Městec Králové parish. In 1359, the priest Jan Dobrohost from Turnov was appointed to the church.

The entire administrative area of the municipality of Kněžice is recorded as an area with documented archaeological heritage and archaeological finds. Beňovice is recorded as an extinct village with a fortified manor and archaeological traces.

Nature

The Žlunice–Skochovice Site of Community Importance extends into the administrative area of the municipality of Kněžice. The Žlunice–Skochovice Natura 2000 site associated with Kněžice consists of two elongated woodland complexes in gently undulating terrain.

Habitats recorded in the Žlunice–Skochovice Natura 2000 area include Eurosiberian steppic oak woods, oak-hornbeam forests of the Galio-Carpinetum association, and old acidophilous oak woods with pedunculate oak on sandy plains.

Activities

Osecký rybník is a 5-hectare sport-fishing pond in the cadastral area of Kněžice. Sport fishing at Osecký rybník began in mid-2008; local fishing regulations and permits apply. Traditional children's competitions as well as 24-hour and 12-hour fishing competitions for adults were announced at Osecký rybník for the year in question.

Cycle route No. 144 from Křinec via Nový Bydžov to Hrádek u Nechanic reaches Kněžice at kilometre 16.60.
