Vrbice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A church is documented in Vrbice as early as 1305. In the centre of the village stands the complex of St. Gallus Church on a raised spur of land. It comprises an enclosing wall with an entrance gate, a bell tower and the church.

Culture

St. Gallus Church is a single-nave Baroque building dating from 1733–1734 and was created by rebuilding an older Gothic church. At the eastern end of the cemetery, a fragment of the ground floor of the original bell tower has also been preserved. Of the upper structure, which carried two bells, only a relic remains.

The village fire of 11 September 1887 is also part of the local history: 14 buildings in Vrbice, including all farm buildings, burned down, and the old church was also destroyed. The new parish church in Vrbice was solemnly consecrated in 1893 by Bishop Jan Nepomuk Brynych.

Northwest of St. Gallus Church stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary at the centre of an intersection of three roads. Its square floor plan is formed by four pillars connected by semicircular arches; the chapel is topped by a low pyramid roof covered with tiles. It is designated as a protected building. Mass is held at St. Gallus Parish Church on Sundays in even-numbered calendar weeks at 9:00 a.m.

Nature

The Vinný vrch natural monument was first designated on 1 April 1974. The protected area preserves thermophilic plant communities containing the plant species lily-of-the-valley garlic.

Surroundings

In the surroundings of Opočnice, the site of the hillfort and the location of the abandoned village of Bolice lie less than 2 km north-northeast of Opočnice on the road to Městec Králové. Approximately 500 m beyond the buildings of the agricultural cooperative, a field track branches off to the east.
