Semice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the summit of Semická hůra (Semice nad Labem), a hill in the immediate vicinity of Semice, lies the protected area of Polabské hůry, with thermophilous fringe communities and small stands of black pine.

Landscape

Polabské hůry protects semi-natural dry grasslands, scrub formations on calcareous substrates, and extensively mown meadows ranging from the lowlands to the foothills. The area preserves well-preserved examples of the white slopes of the Elbe lowlands, which serve as refuges for many endangered plant and animal species in a landscape strongly shaped by agriculture.

The hills of Zálužník (Kounice), Jalovčí (Milovice-Benátecká Vrutice), and Kateřina (Milovice nad Labem) are also located in the surroundings of Semice.

Things to Do

The “Through the Landscape of Rudolf II” educational trail is a recommended excursion in Semice. A red-marked hiking route leads through Semice and on to Hradišťko and Nymburk. The “Cycling Between Prague and Kolín” bike tour leads to Semice and there points in the direction of Hradišťko, Sadská, and Kersko.

Culture and History

During the Thirty Years’ War, Swedish troops destroyed and burned the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in 1641. It was built in 1731 on the site of an earlier church and is a Baroque building with a mansard tower.

The Šáteček children’s folk ensemble was founded in 1985 at the primary school in Semice. It consists of two dance groups and a music group, which perform together in the Czech Republic and abroad, and is dedicated to the folklore of the central Elbe lowlands.

In the wider region around Semice are Práče, a fortress, and U Svatého Vojtěcha, a church.
