In Sány, two specific landmarks lead into different chapters of the town’s history: St. Andrew’s Church and the Sánský Canal.
Culture
St. Andrew’s Church in Sány is a single-nave, rectangular Empire-style building with a tower above the eastern façade. St. Andrew’s is the parish church of the Roman Catholic parish of Sány; the present church was completed in 1827.
The history of the town also includes a fortress associated with Jan Čapek ze Sán, which stood at what are now house numbers 2, 3, and 42. Jan Čapek ze Sán was a famous Hussite warrior and ruled Sány from the fortress. In the wider region around Sány, Zámek Kačina is a château.
Nature
The Sánský Canal was built around 1450 to divert water from the Cidlina to the ponds near Poděbrady. The historic Sánský Canal has survived in the Sány area to this day. It rises at Bader before Sány from the Cidlina, flows through Opolánky, passes Opolany, Odřepsy, Pátek, and Křečkov, and flows into the Mrlina near Budiměřice.
Hořánck, U Borku [Záhornice u Městce Králové], and Kamenec are mountains in the surroundings of Sány. Oškobrh is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Sány.
On the Way and Locally
A marked hiking trail runs along the route Žehuň–Sány–Libice–Poděbrady. During the Želviáda canoe trip on the Cidlina, a refreshment stop is provided in Sány halfway along the route.
The local association life is also connected with regular events: since 2003, the Sány Volunteer Fire Brigade has organized competitions for the Pohár starosty obce and a district league in fire attack in Sány.
