Nature and Wildlife

Chleby Zoo is home to more than 420 animals from 120 or more species. It was founded on June 5, 1997, based on the previous animal collection of the Fraňek couple. In 2004, Chleby Zoo became the first official non-state zoo in the post-revolution period in the Czech Republic. Experience programs give visitors the opportunity to try out the work of animal keepers. The zoo also offers educational programs led by a guide for kindergartens and for the first and second stages of primary school.

Churches and History

The foundation stone of the Roman Catholic church in Chleby was laid on May 8, 1780. The Reformed congregation of tolerance in Chleby was founded in 1783. St. Lawrence Church in Chleby was completed two years after construction began. The Protestant church in Chleby was built between 1885 and 1888 in the Neo-Romanesque style.

Water and Cycling Route

The Chleby waterway is part of the current fishing grounds of the Nymburk anglers. The 36 km-long cycling route “From Nymburk to the zoo and Loučeň Castle” runs through Chleby.

Bus route 673 runs directly from Nymburk railway station to Chleby.
