History and Townscape

The first mention associated with Chrást dates from 1345. Chrást was created by merging the two villages of Chrást and Manderscheid. František Josef re-established Chrást in 1776 after the buildings of the former estate, along with part of the land, had been sold to subjects.

The listed buildings in Chrást include a wooden bell tower. The memorial to local victims of the First World War is made of Hořice sandstone and was unveiled in 1924. It commemorates 20 fallen soldiers from the battlefields of the First World War, as well as members of the Czechoslovak Legions in Russia.

Chrást is located in the flat Polabská Plain. The village lies near the D11 motorway, which connects Prague with Hradec Králové.

Chrást is located near the Kersko recreational area, which is associated with the writer Bohumil Hrabal. The Bohumil Hrabal educational trail in nearby Kersko has 13 stops.

Traditions

The traditional Vítovská pouť is celebrated in Chrást on 15 June. The traditional Posvícení in Chrást always takes place on the first Sunday in November. The traditional Staročeské máje takes place in Chrást every two years.
