Klecany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The hillfort of Klecany is classified as an important archaeological site. It lies between Klecany and the Vltava, above the right bank of the river southwest of the town. The site covered around 5.8 hectares and was fortified all around; in some places, an earthen rampart has survived in the terrain to this day.

History and Culture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Klecany was first mentioned in documents in 1332. It was originally a Gothic building and was later remodelled in the Baroque style. Klecany Castle also bears witness to a long history: a fortress stood on its site, mentioned as early as 1380; the castle itself has been documented since 1607.

Černá skála is also associated with a site of Czech remembrance. A memorial plaque commemorates Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk’s visit on 16 July 1920. An annual commemorative procession in honour of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk ends at Černá skála on the eve of 7 March; locally, it is also known as “Masarykova skála”.

Landscape along the Vltava

The Vyhlídka viewpoint above the Vltava offers views of the river valley, Levý Hradec and a lock. The Vyhlídka nad jezem viewpoint is situated on a steep rock topped by a wooden cross.

The largely artificial Čertovka path leads from the hillfort of Klecany to the Vltava.

Trails and Crossings

Long-distance cycle route No. 7, “Labská stezka Praha – Drážďany”, passes through Klecany in the Klecánky district. The Klecánky ferry carries people, bicycles and small motorcycles; crossings at this location have been documented since 1911.
