Klášterní Skalice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Cistercian monastery in Klášterní Skalice was the most recent foundation of this order in the Bohemian lands. The complex remained unfinished and was destroyed during the Hussite period.

Culture and History

A surviving fragment of the crossing pier is 10 metres high and places the monastery church on the northern side of the complex. The collapsed walls of the castle or monastery chapel of Panny Marie were rebuilt. The former monastery chapel was attached to the northern side of the castle and served as the castle chapel. It was later remodelled in the pseudo-Gothic style, particularly on the eastern façade.

Among the notable sculptures is the statue of “sv. Jana Nepomuckého”, a work by an unknown artist dating from around 1750. Together with the statues of “Panna Maria”, “svatá Anna” and “svatý Prokop”, it forms a symbolic protective cross whose arms intersect in the area of the former monastery in Klášterní Skalice. The monument “Boží muka” is a damaged fragment made of red sandstone from Nučice, dating from around 1750; the entire upper section is missing.

Landscape

The former monastery complex is bordered on its western side by the riverbed of the small Kouřimka River. Rocky cliffs emerge here above the Kouřimka.

Trails

A green-marked regional route connects Pečky and Kouřim via Dobřichov, Radim, Chotutice, Vrbčany, Žabonosy and Klášterní Skalice. In addition, a green-marked hiking trail from Pečky to Kouřim passes through Klášterní Skalice.
