Zalešany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zalešany can be explored through tangible traces of its history: the stone two-arch road bridge over the Výrovka dates from the early 19th century and is freely accessible. Set into its eastern wall is a fragment of a millstone bearing the year 1863 and the initials “J. F.”. A plaque beside it refers to a repair carried out in 1927.

Culture and History

The Chapel of Saint Ludmila in Zalešany was built in 1811. The brick wayside shrine of Saint Francis, featuring a painted image of Saint Francis of Assisi, dates from around 1830. It was restored in 1992 and 2016; during the 2016 restoration, its surroundings were also landscaped and supplemented with benches. The stone cross in Zalešany commemorates a farmer who was buried under wood on 4 December 1661.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the farmyard still contained a tall stone tower with a pyramidal roof, a remnant of the Zalešany fortress. The tower later disappeared as well; its masonry was probably used for farm buildings on the estate. The Zalešany Mill burned down to its foundations in 1914. The present-day building was erected that same year and has been called Hamplův mlýn ever since. Electricity was first introduced in Zalešany in 1920, initially to the estate and Hamplův mlýn.

The development of the village is also connected with its infrastructure. The Pečky–Kouřim railway line, which opened in 1882, gave Zalešany a boost: afterwards, the number of houses rose to 33 and the population to 216.

Nature and Trails

The Zalešanské maďaly are a group of two trees protected as natural monuments, planted around 1830. They stand on the western edge of Zalešany at the crossroads of field paths near “Na Františku”. Zalešany lies in a gently hilly landscape where forests, meadows and fertile arable land alternate. In the immediate surroundings of Zalešany, walks are considered an opportunity for relaxation.
