Dolní Chvatliny: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Dolní Chvatliny offers tangible evidence of its history: today’s Church of St. Peter and Paul was completed in 1828. It is registered under number 23339/2–720 in the Central List of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

Culture and history

The fortress of Dolní Chvatliny also dates back a long way. It was probably built in the second half of the 14th century during the time of Vavřinec z Mlékovic or his sons Soběn and Vesel. To this day, only an overgrown mound remains, separated from its surroundings by a ditch and an embankment in the form of a small rise in the terrain.

The modest remains of the fortress are located on the eastern edge of the village, to the left of the road to Bečváry, at the site still known as Na Zámečku. A memorial plaque commemorating the war victims of Dolní Chvatliny is also located on the building of the former school no. 26.

Music

The Velký dechový orchestr Kolín – Dolní Chvatliny represents a tradition of its own, with a history spanning more than one hundred years. Together with the Městská hudba Františka Kmocha, it helped establish the Kmochův Kolín festival.

Landscape and special places

Dolní Chvatliny lies on the Voděradský stream. In the municipality of Horní Chvatliny, the Zahradní železnice Zásmucka garden railway was built on private land; it has track gauges of 300 mm and 127 mm. Larger organised groups can arrange a private visit there, and the Zahradní železnice Zásmucka also offers public operating days.
