Culture and History

The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Nová Ves I, whose origins date back to around the year 1300, is listed together with its entire complex in the Central List of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

A new memorial plaque was unveiled at the monument on Bedřichov on 18 June 2005; it bears Czech, German and English texts. The commemorative event Válka v krajkách in remembrance of the Battle of Kolín takes place every year in June and includes Křečhoř, Lošany and Nová Ves I as venues.

Location and Nature

Bedřichova vyhlídka is located southwest of Nová Ves I on Bedřichov at an elevation of 279 metres above sea level.

The Lom u Nové Vsi nature monument lies 1 kilometre west of Nová Ves I; 500 metres beyond the village, an unmarked farm track branches off to the left from the Nová Ves I–Velim road and leads there. The pond at Lom u Nové Vsi is an important habitat for amphibians, including Triturus vulgaris and Triturus cristatus. Lom u Nové Vsi is of geological and palaeontological importance and serves as a refuge for endangered species and biological communities.

In the vicinity of Nová Ves I are the hill “(Na Větrníku) [Cerhenice]” and Chotule Hill [Veltruby]. Hořánck is a mountain in the vicinity of Nová Ves I. In the wider regional area are Horky, a mountain, and Kačina Chateau, a castle.

On the Way and Throughout the Year

Cycle Route 0109 runs through the municipality of Nová Ves I towards Kolín, Cerhenice, Pečky and Milčice.

The Stezka českých animátorů connects Kolín with Nová Ves u Kolína and introduces important Czech visual artists and animators, including Vladimír Jiránek, Zdeněk Miler and Jiří Trnka. The Stezka českých animátorů ends at Václavské náměstí in Nová Ves I.
