Týnec Nad Labem: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Týnec nad Labem lies with its preserved historic town center on a promontory above the Elbe. The Belvedér viewpoint next to the school offers views of Kunětická hora, the Iron Mountains, the Čáslav Basin and the Elbe lowlands towards Kolín.

Nature

In the Elbe lowlands, Týnecké mokřiny is an important habitat of the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina). Týnecké mokřiny is a 78.2773-hectare nature reserve in the cadastral area of Týnec nad Labem. The wetlands comprise a mosaic of communities of standing waters with floating, surface-drifting and submerged higher plants, reed beds and willow stands.

The present-day Church of St. John the Baptist in Týnec nad Labem was completed in 1781, after the foundations had been laid in 1780. It features frescoes by Josef Kramolín from 1781 and Baroque side altars from 1720. The side altars were transferred here in 1786, together with the organs, from the dissolved Sedlec Monastery. The church is listed in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

The Melas crypt contains the mortal remains of Michael Baron Melas, his wife Josefa and Augustin de Millern. The Marian Column stands in the middle of Masaryk Square in Týnec nad Labem.

Panský dům dates from 1584. On the first upper floor, it preserves a hall with false mirror windows and a wall painting by Adalbert Schlechta from 1803. The building is listed as a cultural monument.

History

The Museum of the Perner Family and Týnec nad Labem offers a permanent exhibition on the history of Týnec nad Labem and its surroundings. The exhibition also covers La Tène-period and Slavic settlement.

Getting around

The CKH5 cycle route “Around the Elbe to Týnec nad Labem” is 51.8 km long, with a possible deviation of ±5%. A blue-marked hiking route from Týnec nad Labem to Labská Chrčice passes through the Železná vrata gorge at the hillfort on the summit of Kolo, which lies 225 m above sea level.
