Tuklaty: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Tuklaty, several historical layers can be read in specific buildings. The bell tower was originally a fortified castle built in the 14th century and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 17th century. The present-day Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist is a Baroque building erected after 1688 on the site of a church documented as early as the 14th century. After 1989, it was extensively reconstructed.

Culture

The vicarage in Tuklaty was built in 1729 by the priest Václav Pečený; the construction costs were financed by Duchess Marie Terezie Savojská of the House of Liechtenstein. It has a central building section with wings in the shape of a St. Andrew's cross and is being gradually converted into a community centre with two halls and several other smaller rooms for club and social activities.

The bell tower also preserves distinctive historical traces. In 1819, it was used for the first historical survey of Czech municipalities and towns, conducted by the mathematician, physicist and astronomer František Ignác Kasián Halaška with a maritime sextant. One bell was cast in 1506 by the bell founder Bartoloměj from Prague; a second bell was made in 1624 by the bell founder Jakub Mělnický in Mladá Boleslav.

History

The school museum in Tuklaty is located in the former vicarage and displays exhibits from the local school and from residents. It documents nearly three centuries of local educational history: a timeline begins in 1730, photographs of school chronicles complement it, and these chronicles have been kept in Tuklaty since 1855. Access to the school museum in Tuklaty was available during the municipal office's opening hours or by prior arrangement with the Tuklaty Municipal Office.

Geographical location

Tuklaty lies on the southern edge of the Polabská nížina lowland along the Tuklatský potok stream. The Tuklatský potok flows into the Výmola behind Tlustovousy. A picturesque walk is possible along the meanders of the Výmola in spring. Tuklaty is also located on the Prague–Kolín railway line.
