Horní Kruty: Holiday apartments and houses

Horní Kruty is part of the hilly and heavily wooded Hornokrutsko region in the southwest of the Kolín District. At the highest point of this area, 410 metres above sea level, stands the Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas, dating from the 18th century. It is a distinctive landmark of the municipality of Horní Kruty and is considered one of the significant examples of Baroque architecture in the Kolín region.

Culture

The Church of St. Wenceslas in Horní Kruty is a protected cultural monument. The foundation stone of the present building was laid on 28 July 1740, and the new church was consecrated on 6 October 1743. On the same day, the Chapel of St. Gothard was consecrated together with the church.

The water tower and the present-day primary school also form part of the village’s architectural character. The water tower is a distinctive structure in the centre of the village green. It was completed in 1927 together with the municipality’s water supply system and electrification. The basic structure of the present school building was built in 1849; it acquired its current appearance through the addition of a new northern wing in 1886.

History

Another historical trace is the building of the former Kampelička, constructed in 1931. A memorial plaque on it commemorates the victims of Nazism. The family of MUDr. Hugo Teller was deported from there during the Second World War and subsequently murdered in concentration camps.

The Sokolovna also reflects the community’s commitment to the village: it was built through voluntary work, donated building materials, and contributions from local residents and surrounding municipalities.

Activities

On 29 August 2026, children up to the age of 15 can take part in the children’s fishing competitions at the pond in Horní Kruty. Participants must be accompanied by an adult and have their own fishing rod.

The Hornokrutská 40 is a sporting connection to the village’s history. It was a public cycling competition with a 40-kilometre course that could be completed on a mountain bike or cross bike. The tenth and last documented race took place on 10 August 2019.

Getting around

PID bus route 821 runs on the Kolín–Svojšice–Kouřim–Sázava route via Horní Kruty. It also serves stops in Dolní Kruty and Přestavlky.
