Jílové u Prahy is closely associated with gold mining. The gold mines of Jílové are considered the historically most significant source of gold in the Bohemian lands. At the Regional Museum, the exhibition “Krok za krokem zlatou historií” traces the history of gold, from gold extraction through Celtic gold panning to medieval deep mining.

Underground and at the Museum

The exhibition “Krok za krokem zlatou historií” includes an accessible replica mining tunnel. Augmented reality animates mining machinery inside it and combines the historical presentation with a digital layer.

The gold mines of Jílové are home to the first underground via ferrata in the Czech Republic. Its route leads through mining chambers dating from the reign of Charles IV. The adventure ends with a descent via ladders and stairs through historic mine workings before returning to the Václav adit. At the gold mines, an underground railway also leads to the Pepř shaft.
