Janov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a protected cultural monument in the cadastral area of Janov. As a wayside chapel, it features an ornately designed late Baroque gable structure above its façade.

Local History

The original settlement of Janov, called Janův důl, was founded between 1771 and 1779 as a settlement for workers on the surrounding estates.

Local Culture

The MaDiS amateur theatre in Janov has rehearsed twenty-one plays and stages its performances in the hall at the local inn. Janov’s monument to the fallen stands in the village square; it was unveiled in 1937 and bears the names of seven fallen soldiers. According to local tradition, the ghost Briknherr appeared in the forests around Janov and near the Ewigu Pond (Evíku) between Janov and Deštnice.

Paths and Mobility

The railway line from Rakovník via Louny to Most crosses the territory of the municipality of Janov. Janov’s local pond was lost when the railway line from Rakovník to Louny opened in 1904. Marked cycle route No. 8167 passes through Janov. A workout playground has also been opened in Janov, offering a wide range of exercise equipment for all age groups.

In the old Žatec District, Janov was the only Czech municipality with 2,835 kop of hop gardens.
