Dubenec can be explored through both its architectural history and its waterways. Between the village square, the château grounds and the northern cadastral area, there are various historical and landscape points of reference.

History and Architectural Heritage

The history of the village dates back to 1321: Dubenec was founded by Štěpán z Tetína in that year. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the village square.

Dubenec Château was created after 1755 by converting an older building and is now a ruin. The building has one storey, is partially basemented and has a rectangular floor plan. Its core is a Baroque structure; based on plans by Ignác Vojtěch Ullmann, it was rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style.

In addition to the château, the listed château complex includes the northern farm wing with a residential building and stables, as well as the southern farm wing with a stable and barn. The ensemble also includes a courtyard with an enclosing wall and a château park with remnants of the enclosing wall and swimming pool.

Waterways and Surroundings

The Bytízský stream enters Dubenec from the southwest and flows through the built-up area. There, it feeds several small water basins. In the northern part of Dubenec’s cadastral area, it flows into the Kocába.

The Kocába enters Dubenec from the northwest and flows through the northern part of the cadastral area. It is officially classified as a significant watercourse.

Velký Chlum mountain is located in the vicinity of Dubenec. The mountains of Velká Leč, Velká Třemošná and Kuchyňka are also located in the surrounding area.

Culture in the Wider Surrounding Area

The Zřícenina Valdek ruin is located in the wider regional surroundings of Dubenec. The historical site of Lety u Písku, the Memorial to the Holocaust of Roma and Sinti in Bohemia, and Karlštejn Castle are also located in the same wider regional area. The Church of Saint Anne is located in the vicinity of Dubenec.
