Chocerady: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chocerady lies on the banks of the Sázava. In the town and its immediate surroundings, historic ecclesiastical buildings, archaeological traces and marked trails come together to create a diverse picture of the region.

Culture and History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in Chocerady’s village square. It is originally Gothic; on the north side of the presbytery there is a columned altar dating from 1750 with an image of the Infant Jesus of Prague. A rectory dating from 1705 also stands near the church.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity in Komorní Hrádek is also among the religious sites; it was consecrated on 15 February 2012. Komorní Hrádek features Renaissance and Baroque construction phases, but is generally not open to the public. Once a year, the site holds an open day as part of European Heritage Days.

In the forest below Vrážský vrch, near Komorní Hrádek, lies Loreta, a former pilgrimage chapel. It was founded in 1765 and visited by processions from the surrounding area. In 1873, the former pilgrimage chapel was converted into a mausoleum in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Čejchanov is an archaeological site with castle ruins on a spur on the left bank of the Sázava. The ruins of Čejchanov Castle can be reached from the road via a path along the fence of the chateau grounds or via a path from the Chocerady railway halt along the railway line towards Hvězdonice.

Trails along the Sázava

The Chocerady railway halt is located on the Čerčany–Světlá nad Sázavou line. Marked cycle route No. 19 also runs through the Chocerady area along an existing local road on the right bank of the Sázava.

Several marked trails lead to and through Chocerady for hiking: A red-marked hiking trail runs from Benešov via Loreta and a bridge to Chocerady. A second red-marked hiking trail follows the right bank of the Sázava from Čerčany towards Sázava and connects in Chocerady. The blue-marked hiking trail leads from the signpost at Mount Chlum to the centre of Chocerady and ends at the junction with the yellow- and red-marked hiking trail.

Hedge Maze

There is a hedge maze for children and adults at house number 117 in Chocerady. It can be visited at any time throughout the year, preferably by prior arrangement.
