Choťánky can be discovered through historical traces and a protected floodplain landscape. The village combines evidence from several periods with paths through a diverse landscape.
Culture
The historic bell tower of Choťánky was built in 1882. Older still is the fortress of Choťánky, which was mentioned in 1345 as part of the Poděbrady domain and later became the seat of retainers.
The fortress known as Kočičí hrádek probably disappeared during the Hussite siege of Poděbrady in 1426. Archaeological excavations also point to the village’s long history: they showed that Choťánky dates from the same period as Slavník Libice. Finds from the Neolithic and Hallstatt cultures were also discovered along the road from Vrčení to Choťánky.
Nature
Louky u Choťánek is a protected natural monument covering an area of 141.5349 hectares. The area protects a mosaic of floodplain meadows, pools, reed beds, and willow and alder stands.
Choťánky was probably originally located on the banks of the Elbe. After the Elbe changed its course, abandoned river channels remained. In the 15th century, these channels formed an extensive network of ponds typical of the Poděbradsko region.
Paths
The Libice educational trail runs through the Louky u Choťánek natural monument to Poděbrady. In addition, cycle route 8194 connects Choťánky with Libice nad Cidlinou.
