Culture and history
The churches of Sveti Stipan, Sveti Spas, Sveti Mihovil and Sveti Ilija are located in the wider regional surroundings of Zastražišće. Further historical evidence can be found in the village itself and its surroundings: an Illyrian hillfort, dating from around 1000 BC, is located on Vela Glava. The Anđelinović Tower, dating from the 17th century, stands in Postranje. St Barbara’s Chapel was first mentioned in 1407 and is considered one of the oldest chapels on Hvar.
Around Zastražišće, there are circular stone field shelters known as „trimi“, as well as dry-stone walls. The tradition of dry-stone wall construction is described as part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
