Jelsa: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The Church of Our Lady of Health is a 16th-century church on a hill overlooking Jelsa. The Dobrović House is one of the finest examples of Neoclassical residential architecture in Jelsa. Its permanent exhibition combines a preserved historic residential interior with minimalist works by Juraj Dobrović.

St. John’s Church is an octagonal chapel dating from the late 17th century. Cultural events are held in front of it in summer, including concerts, theatre performances and presentations. The Museum of Jelsa is open to the public. The Kravata Gallery on the ground floor presents contemporary Croatian artists as well as topics from local cultural history.

The Za Križen Gallery in Jelsa presents the procession through audiovisual recordings, 3D displays, multimedia installations and educational content. The Za Križen procession passes through Jelsa and five other settlements in central Hvar. St. Mary’s Church/Fortress was expanded into a fortified church in 1535 and further fortified in 1573.

Nature and Trails

The coastal trail to Prapatna follows the coast for 3 kilometres to Prapatna and is mostly an easy route suitable for beginners. The Preko vrha 703 route is 23.9 kilometres long and combines asphalt and gravel roads. It starts in Jelsa, passes through Pitve, Martinlca and Humac, and returns to Jelsa.

Grebišće is a sandy beach with a long stretch of shallow water, 2 kilometres from the centre of Jelsa. Mina is a sandy beach 1 kilometre from the centre of Jelsa. The Jelsa–Mina Aquapark offers aquapark activities, paddleboards, pedal boats and kayaks.

Nearby is the Chapel of St. Luke, a 14th-century chapel in a bay 4 kilometres east of Jelsa. Tor is accessible only on foot; the walk takes around 40 minutes. Šćedro, a protected significant landscape and a Natura 2000 site, lies within the Municipality of Jelsa.

Harbour and Local Events

Jelsa Harbour has 54 berths for sailing boats, motor yachts and catamarans. At the Jelsa Wine Festival, visitors can sample wines from Hvar’s southern slopes, the hills and valleys of Jelsa, and fields by the sea. The wine festival has been held for years from Friday to Sunday in the first half of August.
